Swimming Pool Standards: Public and Domestic Scope Explained
A swimming-pool standards review starts with its classification and intended use. Requirements for a publicly used pool should not be assumed to match those for a domestic pool, and the relevant classification needs checking even when a pool is privately owned. Two different scopes EN 15288-1 addresses safety requirements for the design of swimming pools for public use. EN 16582-1 addresses general requirements for domestic swimming pools. Its scope excludes public-use pools and certain other products, including spas and paddling pools. Those distinctions matter when commissioning design work or buying equipment. A document with 'swimming pools' in its title may still be outside the scope of the facility or product being considered.
